2023 Legislative Season
This was an incredible year. We were a bit concerned given that our two champions were no longer in the statehouse and we were facing a massive offensive fight with the Governor's Public Health Commission.
There were many calls to action, there was plenty of testimony, and certainly a lot of very upset politicians.
At the end of the session, H4ML activists were able to walk away with their heads held high, knowing that we had many legislative victories.
First and foremost, we expected and prepared to combat the Governor's Public Health Commission (GPHC), and we did. Check out the dedicated page to see all the amazing things that happened, and some of the very real risks that still exist.
SB4- encompassed the legislative changes proposed by the GPHC, and though it passed, we were able to prevent some of the most egregious portions they were hoping to put forth.
SB272- Foster Care and Adoption was filed and died in committee. However through working with different legislators, primarily Rep Sweet & Sen. Johnson H4ML was able to see this language work it's way into SB345! This language protects potential foster and adoptive families from being denied a license related to vaccination status. This was a tremendous victory for Hoosier children.
SB47- "Vax-Pass Lite" was successfully killed by skillful testimony and activist phone calls into the state house. This bill, which would have added a barcode or QR code to the involuntary state vaccine registry and created a vaccine passport. The Indiana Legislature had pass a law in 2022 banning vaccine passports. We were very pleased to see this bill die, but it was eye opening to see that our legislature still desired to create such a system.
