The Indiana legislative season has started, and things are moving FAST.

It’s back. The same disastrous bill as last year’s SB 46 has returned, dressed up again as a so-called “Parental Rights” bill.

DON’T BE FOOLED. This bill is NOT about protecting parental rights. It’s about stripping them away.

Here’s the horrifying truth:

• Weakens Constitutional Protections: Parental rights are already safeguarded under the Constitution (Troxel v. Granville, 2000). This bill undermines those protections by introducing unnecessary qualifiers that could allow government overreach.

 

• Parental Rights Subordinated: SB 143 explicitly states that your rights as a parent can be overridden if the government deems it necessary for a "compelling governmental interest."

 

• Who Decides? What exactly counts as a "compelling governmental interest"? Who gets to make that call? Politicians? Bureaucrats? This language is vague and ripe for abuse.

 

• A Dangerous Precedent: Once this is law, it opens the door for future overreach into your family’s education, religion, and medical decisions—all under the guise of public interest.

Make no mistake, this bill is not just bad—it’s TERRIFYING.

We need you to act FAST to stop SB 143 before it goes any further.

Call these Senate Judiciary Committee members BEFORE 2 PM on January 8 and tell them:
“Parental rights are NOT secondary to 'compelling governmental interests.' Strike that language from SB 143 or KILL the bill!”
